Dance - Ballet, Tap and JazzArt & Performing ArtsInstructor Cheryl Brett returns to teach the ballet, tap and jazz dance program again this year. Mrs. Brett is a long-time Community Education teacher who owns a successful studio in Hinesville. She has studied and performed with numerous artists including the Pittsburgh Ballet. Ms. Brett is certified and affiliated with the Dance Makers of America, Professional Dance Teachers of America, and Dance Educators of America. Starting SoonDriver's EducationDrivers EducationGeorgia law requires mandatory driver education before teens can obtain their Class D license. All 16 year olds applying for a Class D driver’s license must complete an approved driver education course that includes 30-hours classroom or virtual instruction and six hours of instruction behind the wheel with training by a qualified instructor. Parents who live in the Pembroke/Ellabell area must transport students to Richmond Hill Community Education Center. Driving times will be scheduled after the first class session. All registration forms will be timed and dated to assure placement of students. A copy of the student’s learner’s license is required prior to beginning the class. Starting SoonFundamentals of BasketballSports & FitnessThis class is designed to teach kids the fundamentals of basketball. Lessons will focus on shooting form, dribbling skills, and passing. Beginners and experienced students are welcome. Students will have the opportunity to play 5 on 5 against each other. Developing a positive culture that promotes self-confidence and teamwork will be our foundation. Students will be engaged in various drills and games to help improve their basketball fundamentals. *Note: No transport provided for this class for students not enrolled in MES ASP. Group Beginner Guitar is a two - session course that will give your child what they need to play for fun and entertainment. Each of the two sessions builds on the previous session. PopularGroup PianoMusicGroup Beginner Piano is taught by former classroom teacher, Jo Hart. The small group class has every child at a keyboard learning the basics of piano with all materials provided. Students have fun while learning note spelling and basic music theory. This is a 5-week course in which subsequent sessions build on the previous session. At the end of these sessions, your child will have an understanding of the basics of piano and will be ready to continue a lifetime love of piano. The skills and movements required in gymnastics contribute to the development of all muscle groups. Movement Education gives students an understanding of anatomy combined with effort and spatial awareness. The accomplishments of their goals/skills promotes self confidence in a fun learning environment. Safety is always a top priority when teaching skill progression. Gymnastics classes include instruction on the balance beam, uneven bars, floor, vault, and parallel bars. Classes are for boys and girls. Tumbling classes specializes in perfecting floor skills. At least one year of gymnastics classes is required unless approved by instructor. All classes are one hour with the option to take more than once a week. PopularKids in the KitchenYouth EnrichmentThese cooking sessions are a great way for kids to learn about proper nutrition and kitchen skills. Each class will focus on a nutrition component or a cooking skill and include a recipe prepared in class. Some recipes will be done as a group and some will be done individually. Appliances such as a toaster oven, hot plate and griddle will be used. Depending on the age and maturity level, students will be allowed to help use these devices with close monitoring by the instructor. Lessons are offered on a weekly basis for 30 minutes and are available for beginners as well as those who have piano experience. Minimum age requirements for enrolling in piano lessons will be determined by each instructor. Three qualified instructors will be teaching piano for the Community Education program. Piano lessons take place in the after school hours. Class times and locations will be assigned individually. Please note that your registration does not confirm your enrollment in the piano class. Private Violin LessonsMusicThis violin class is perfect for beginners, advanced beginners or those at the intermediate level of play. The instructor for this course is Haley Kim an active performer and music instructor. Students will develop an understanding of how to play the violin from scratch, demonstrate the ability to hold the bow, violin and shoulder rest correctly. Students will also learn the terminology, read basic music notation, practice effectively, and demonstrate reading music more fluently. PopularScoops LacrosseSports & FitnessScoops is a Lacrosse class that encourages lifetime learners to appreciate physical activity and health. Students can develop a passion for playing Lacrosse with a focus on having fun while learning. Students will learn how to run with the ball, throw, catch, score, and more. There are two levels offered for this course though no experience is needed for either age group. Beginner skills will be taught for grades Pk-2 and more advanced practice and scrimmages will be included for skill development for grades 3-5. This five-session speed program, designed and lead by RHHS’s USATF certified, 9x Savannah Morning News’ Coach of the Year, Levi Sybert, brings focus to the speed side of the sport of Track & Field in a fun and interactive way. Participants will meet at Richmond Hill’s High’s Track Complex where they will be paired up with students of similar ability in order to prepare for their meet with the high school students at the Apex Invite.
