    Piano

    Private piano lessons are offered to children and adults. Lessons are offered on a weekly basis for 30 minutes and are available for beginners as well as those who have piano experience. Minimum age requirements for enrolling in piano lessons will be determined by each instructor. Multiple qualified instructors will be teaching piano for the Community Education program. Piano lessons take place in the after school hours. Class times and locations will be assigned individually. Please note that your registration does not confirm your enrollment in the piano class. You will be contacted once assigned to an available class or placed on a waiting list if no class is available. Prices may vary by instructor. In Introduction to College Prep Piano, the student receives a weekly 30-minute piano lesson that is tailored to their individual learning style. Lessons are focused on theory, technique, sight-reading, aural-training, and a variety of musical styles appropriate for beginners to advanced students of any age. Students are responsible for purchasing lesson books as assigned and should have access to a piano for daily practice.

    Four/Five-Year-Old Program (DINKIES) The Playball DINKIES program is tailored for 4 and 5-year-olds and is ideal for those beginning school. Through structured lessons, children practice skills boosting confidence for sports and advancing abilities. This crucial age fosters fundamental development impacting academic, social, and cultural aspects. Our goal is to instill a positive relationship with sports. DINKIES focuses on ball skills, encourages individual participation, and builds confidence to overcome fears. By program completion, children gain significant sports competence. Five/Six-Year-Old Program (Preps) The Playball Preps program for the 5 and 6-year-olds concentrates on refining and advancing fundamental sports skills catering to children who are new to Playball classes. Children practice specialized sports skills with an emphasis on quality execution. They gain competence in various individual sport skills such as shooting a basketball or dribbling a hockey ball. Partner exercises introduce teamwork concepts and leadership roles. The program emphasizes skill refinement, including formalized drills and teamwork, laying the groundwork for competent sport participation.

After care is NOT available for the afternoon camps. Child must have turned 3 at the before the start of camp and must be fully potty trained.

    Pre-K Kiddie Kamp

    Pre-K Kiddie Kamp for 4-year-olds and 5-year-olds Kiddie Kamp provides four and five-year-old preschool students a summer filled with adventure, new discoveries, and fun. The hands-on curriculum spans many themes and presents preschool students with age-appropriate responsibilities and challenges. These students have a natural curiosity and desire to learn, and they enjoy being with other students their age. This camp has been designed to provide activities that build on social and learning skills and present opportunities to learn about sharing, respecting others, building friendships, and developing new interests. The hands-on, structured environment of this camp allows the preschool camper to explore activity centers, enjoy indoor and outdoor activities and field trips, and learn new skills. Campers will also have free time to enjoy group or individual activities through learning opportunities to prepare them for pre-kindergarten or kindergarten classes next school year. Campers must be at least four years old by May 28, 2024 to enroll in this camp. Before and after care are available for these camps. Campers will have a 30 to 45-minute rest time each afternoon. Parents will be provided with a weekly agenda. Campers must bring a lunch and drink. The Community Education Office reserves the right to make changes in the weekly agendas based on enrollment, scheduling conflicts, or weather conditions. Parents will be kept informed of any schedule changes.

    Premium College Application Workshop

    Premium College Application Workshop This premium workshop is designed to guide students through the process of successfully applying to colleges. It includes eight hours of instruction and one-on-one support for essay revisions, taught by a veteran writing teacher. In addition, all participants will receive a digital workshop portfolio of resources, documents, and templates, touching on all topics (testing, applications and requirements, letters of recommendation, essays, majors, etc.) for families to use after the class. After the event, all families will also receive monthly email newsletters in order to stay on top of the college application timeline, and the instructor at Richmond Hill High School is available as needed for individual follow up support and questions.     Private Violin Lessons

    This violin class is perfect for beginners, advanced beginners or those at the intermediate level of play. The instructor for this course is Abbey Terry, an active performer and music instructor. Students will develop an understanding of how to play the violin from scratch, demonstrate the ability to hold the bow, violin and shoulder rest correctly. Students will also learn the terminology, read basic music notation, practice effectively, and demonstrate reading music more fluently. Students are responsible for renting or purchasing instruments, plus scores, lesson books and collections as assigned.

    Private Voice Lessons

    This course consists of private voice lessons for all levels (age 7 and up) for the purpose of vocal technique and artistic application study for solo voice repertoire. After successfully completing the appropriate course of study, the student will: ● Have an understanding of terminology ● Demonstrate the ability to read basic music notation ● Learn how to practice, self study, and continue singing after taking the course ● Have knowledge of solo literature ● Be skilled in solo performance with required musical techniques and artistic expressions Students are responsible for the purchase of the required music. Failure to prepare the course materials may result in low productivity and slower results.

    Science Camp

    Branches of Science What is science? Is it a subject in school? A way of thinking? A career? Science is knowledge and understanding of the world around us. In the Branches of Science camp, students will spend a day with a branch of science to really explore it. Branches of science will feature Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geology, and Astronomy. Students will investigate, play, create, and experiment in each branch of science. The camp is taught by Cynthia Youmans. Mrs. Youmans teaches at Richmond Hill Middle School and enjoys helping young minds learn how much fun science can be. Open to students entering grades 3 - 6. Before and after care are available for this camp.

    Scoops Lacrosse

    Scoops is a Lacrosse class that encourages the appreciation of physical activity and health. Students can develop a passion for playing Lacrosse with a focus on having fun while learning. Students will learn how to run with the ball, throw, catch, score, and more. There are two levels offered for this course though no experience is needed for either age group. Beginner skills will be taught for grades PK-2 and more advanced practice and scrimmages will be included for skill development for grades 3-5. All Lacrosse goals, sticks, and balls are included during class time.

Junior Scientist: All About Animals - PK/K Class Only (March 20-May 1) Do you know what mammal is the largest on Earth? Or how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly? In this program, we invite your little zoologist to analyze the differences between vertebrates and invertebrates, construct their way through the butterfly and frog life cycles, build reptiles, and examine the differences and similarities between insects and arachnids using Kid K'NEX® pieces. Your child will be too busy exploring the animal world to realize that they are gaining critical social, motor, and developmental skills. Snapology Science of Super Powers - All Classes Except PK/K (March 20-May 1 and March 28-May 9) In Snapology's Science of Superpowers program, students explore the worlds of their favorite superheroes. Students will learn about forces, energy, and problem solving as they build models inspired by Superman, Batman, and all their favorite heroes. Experimentation and fun are crucial components of this ‘super’ educational program!

    Snapology Camps

    Snapology Camps Bringing STEM to life using LEGO® bricks! Snapology Savannah summer camps provide a fun and safe environment for children to learn science, technology, engineering, and math concepts using LEGO® bricks and other building tools. We offer computer programming, robotics, animation, and STEM based programs as well as other themed favorites. Your child will learn, create, and innovate while having a blast in our camps! If full day camp is needed on weeks that half-day camps are offered, you can sign your child up for both morning and afternoon Snapology camps, send a lunch, and they can stay from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM! The camps are at the Community Education Campus. Snapology Super Sampler (May 28-31; 9:00 AM-4:00 PM): Come explore the world of Minecraft®, Ninjas, Star Wars® and Superheroes, one day devoted to each theme! Your child is sure to have a blast as we bring these themes to life using LEGO® bricks! Open to students entering grades 1 - 3. Before and after care available. Space Wars Robotics (June 17-21; 9:00 AM-12:00 PM): In this Star Wars-inspired program, your padawan learner will explore the basics of robotics while digging into their favorite parts of the Star Wars movies--the machines! While working with a partner to complete various challenges, your student will be taught how to utilize sensors effectively, how different mechanical components work in their robots, and how programming is a challenging but rewarding skill that they can master with just a little practice. We will support them in the development of their coding and building skills and inspire them with creative challenges based on the movies they love. May the force be with them as they build and grow! Mega Machines Robotics (June 17-21; 1:00-4:00 PM): In Snapology's Mega Machines camp, your child will create some of their favorite motorized vehicles. Creature Creator Robotics (June 24-28; 9:00 AM-12:00 PM): In Snapology's Creature Creator Robotics camp, your animal lover will create their own animal inspired robotic models. Students will learn about gear ratio, sensors, simple machines, and programming as they build insects, dolphins, gorillas, and much more. Your child is sure to have a wild time as they build, learn, and play. Open to students entering grades 1 - 3. Before care available. Developing Engineers (June 24-28; 1:00-4:00 PM): Is your student inquisitive, a problem-solver, a big-thinker, a tinkerer, a puzzler, or a budding engineer? If so, they’re the perfect fit for Snapology’s Developing Engineers: Mechanical Masterminds program! This program gives your student the tools they need to understand mechanical movement through the foundations of simple machines, physics, and engineering design. They will see moving parts up-close as they follow instructions to build various machines, then use the models to develop new design ideas, test out physics concepts, and even play games with their partners and classmates. Whether they are the creative-constructive type or prefer the inquisitive-deconstructive way of learning, this program is sure to spark their interests! Open to students entering grades 1 - 3. This is an annual fee and must be completed as the first step in enrolling in Community Education's Summer Camp 2024. Enrollment in camps is not valid until registration is complete and paid.     What does it take to be a superhero? Superheroes play a vital role in modeling valuable lessons such as moral dilemmas, responsibility, honesty, and teamwork. In Superhero Camp, your child will enjoy dressing up and making superhero accessories. The week will be filled with crafts, games, team building activities, imaginative play, and exciting experiments. Come join the fun! This camp is open to boys and girls ages 4-8.
