Summer Camp Registration / Summer Specialty Camps -
Summer Camp 2024

Summer Gymnastics

Gymnastics camps will be offered for the groups listed below. The camps are open to boys and girls. The camps will emphasize flexibility and conditioning, movement education, and apparatus training including beam, uneven bars, parallel bars, vault, mini-trampoline, and floor. Registration is limited in each age/ability grouping. The instructor is Deborah Hager-Luebbert who has taught gymnastics and tumbling with Community Education for 34 years. She is an accomplished gymnast winning a state title championship and competing at nationals and the SEC-NCAA on a four-year collegiate gymnastics scholarship. She coached as an assistant coach after graduation and then directed Savannah Gymnastics for seven years. She is featured in the book “Legacy of The Blues” for her collegiate competition years. Come join the fun while learning and understanding the concepts of physical and mental training in the sport of gymnastics. Before and after care are available for all classes except Tumbling Tots and for Tumbling the week of July 22.

Tumbling Tots:  The goal of Tumbling Tots camp is for 2-year-old to 3-year-old students to enjoy being active and to gain an understanding of body-in-motion awareness. Studies show that important reading skills and perceptual motor skills are enhanced if a child’s level of self-confidence and motor skills are raised during the formative preschool years. This half-day gymnastics camp is designed with positive reinforcement for developing skills that will accelerate motor development, agility, coordination, flexibility, strength, a love for physical activity, and high self-esteem. Classes include movement education, tumbling, balance beam, uneven bars, mini-trampoline, and vaulting. The use of other apparatus such as balls, hula hoops, parachute, bright colored squares, blocks, and circles will be used to enhance the awareness of shapes and colors. Before and after care are NOT available for this class.

Intermediate/Advanced Gymnastics:  Students in this class will be working on the more advanced skills on all the apparatus equipment of floor, uneven bars, beam, vault, parallel bars, and mini-trampoline. Drills and conditioning are a must to develop strength and flexibility. This is an all-day camp that is open to intermediate-level students who can perform the basic back walk-over, front walk-over, and are working on perfecting back handsprings. This camp is also open to those performing skills at the advanced level, such as standing back tucks, round-off back handsprings, back layout, and full twist. Students should bring a lunch and drink every day.

Preschool/Beginner Gymnastics:  This camp is open to Pre-K-3rd grade. Students should bring a lunch and drink each day. Early registration is a must. In addition to the basic development of gymnastics skills on the balance beam, uneven bars, vault, mini-trampoline, and tumbling, preschool students will work on cognitive skills such as letters, shapes, colors, the skeletal system, and major muscle groups. Activities are designed to help improve self-confidence, flexibility, balance, and rhythm. Preschool gymnastics students will participate in a study of good nutrition and the importance of a healthy body. They will develop skills enhancing their fine motor skills and gross motor skills. This will be a physically challenging camp that teaches the skills that give young children stronger bodies and sharper minds as well as an understanding of their bodies’ capabilities while emphasizing fundamental gymnastics skills on all apparatus and appropriate-sized mats and equipment.  All preschool students must be four years old by May 28, 2024 to attend this camp.

Beginner/Intermediate Gymnastics:  This is an all-day camp open to new or beginner students with little or no previous gymnastics training. The students will be working on progressing basic skills such as cartwheels, one arm cartwheels, front walkovers, back walkovers, and round-offs. Drills and conditioning will be emphasized to enhance and perfect strength and coordination to enable the students to learn more advanced skills safely. Students will learn basic skills on all apparatus such as the balance beam, parallel bars, uneven bars, vault, floor, and mini-trampoline. Students should bring a lunch and drink every day.

Tumbling Camp:  This camp specializes in tumbling skills for all skill levels from beginner to advanced. Students will be training and conditioning to enhance strength and agility and will be performing drills to reach skill level goals of each individual student. This camp will include floor exercise skills and mini-trampoline. Students must have at least one year of prior gymnastics experience and must have completed the second grade or higher to enroll. Students should bring a lunch and drink each day. Before and after care are NOT available for this class the week of July 22.
