STEM - Arctic Circle STEM Challenge

Enrichment / S.T.E.M. -
Community Education 2025-2026

Get ready for an exciting hands-on learning adventure! Our class will be diving into the Arctic Circle STEM Challenge, where students will use their creativity, problem-solving skills, and teamwork to tackle icy engineering and science tasks.

Students will explore questions like:
✨ How do Arctic animals stay warm in freezing temperatures?
✨ What kind of shelter can protect against the cold?
✨ How can we design a floating “iceberg” that holds the most weight?

Through building, testing, and experimenting, students will think like scientists and engineers — while having lots of fun!

*Note:  This class meets twice per week.  Open to grades 1-5.

Karla Costello

Instructor

Hello! I’m Karla Costello, and I have the privilege of teaching 4th grade ESS at Dr. George Washington Carver Elementary. I’m passionate about providing a supportive and engaging learning environment for my students. I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, but my journey has taken me all over the country—and even overseas! These travels have greatly influenced my teaching approach.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Hawai’i Pacific University and a Master’s Degree in Education from Concordia University Nebraska.

When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my two sons and exploring new places. I’m deeply passionate about helping children discover their potential and build a love for learning.
