    Adventure

    Each day is a new adventure in the Adventure Camp! Campers will travel and enjoy the sights and sounds of Coastal Georgia and South Carolina. Each week includes a theme with field trips and activities based on the weekly theme. Campers will explore lots of creative activities throughout the summer and will enjoy sports, games, history and exploring nature in several scheduled field trips. In addition, there will be outdoor play, movies, and time to spend with old and new friends. Students will be transported by school bus for all field trips. Experienced adult instructors will accompany the students on field trips. Parents are kept informed of all activities and field trip locations with a weekly agenda for the camp. It is imperative that parents familiarize themselves with each week’s activities. Because of time constraints, the bus cannot wait for students who arrive late to camp. Students who arrive late for field trips will return home with parents. The Community Education Office reserves the right to make changes in the weekly agendas based on enrollment, scheduling conflicts, or weather conditions. Parents will be kept informed of any schedule changes. Open to students entering grades 1 - 8. Before and after care are available for Summer Adventure Camps.

    Arts Festival at Bryan County Elementary (Pembroke)

    Arts Festival Parents, your child will have a blast while expressing their artistic talents through different art mediums such as drawing, painting, sculpting, paper-mâché, and more. Arts Festival is a great camp to explore all types of art. There will be art themes to develop the students’ creative expression and allow them to create hands-on projects. Each child’s creative expression will be supported and encouraged. The Arts Festival instructor is Helen Redding. She holds an art degree and has taught for Bryan County Community Education and the Averitt Center for the Arts in past years. All materials are provided. This camp will be held at Bryan County Elementary in Pembroke. Open to campers entering grades K - 5.

    Babysitting & First Aid/CPR Works

    This course teaches students to meet the basic needs of children in a care-taking environment with a focus on safety. The training will help students develop leadership skills, start a babysitting business and learn how to communicate with parents while keeping themselves and others safe. Students will also learn child feeding and diapering techniques. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certification card. This class also incorporates a Pediatric First Aid Course that instructs students on how to deal with first aid issues to include medical emergencies, the use of an Epi-pen injector, injury emergencies, and how to handle environmental emergencies. Also covered are adult/child and infant CPR procedures as well as how to react to a child or infant who is choking. Only 10 students are accepted for this course, so early registration is encouraged. NOTE: Students must attend all classes in order to receive certification. Before care is available.

    Basketball Camp at MES

    Basketball Camp at MES This camp is designed to teach kids the fundamentals of basketball. Lessons will focus on shooting form, dribbling skills, and passing. The class is taught by Mario Anderson, an experienced basketball coach and former player. Mr. Anderson has coached basketball at the middle school, high school, and college levels. Beginners and experienced students are welcome. Students will have the opportunity to play five on five against each other. Developing a positive culture that promotes self-confidence, teamwork, and fun will be the foundation. Students will be engaged in various drills and games to help improve their basketball fundamentals. Maximum 24 students for this class. Open to students entering grades 3 - 5; There is no bus transport for this camp. No before or after care is available for this camp.

    Gymnastics Summer Camp

    Summer Gymnastics Gymnastics camps will be offered for the groups listed below. The camps are open to boys and girls. The camps will emphasize flexibility and conditioning, movement education, and apparatus training including beam, uneven bars, parallel bars, vault, mini-trampoline, and floor. Registration is limited in each age/ability grouping. The instructor is Deborah Hager-Luebbert who has taught gymnastics and tumbling with Community Education for 34 years. She is an accomplished gymnast winning a state title championship and competing at nationals and the SEC-NCAA on a four-year collegiate gymnastics scholarship. She coached as an assistant coach after graduation and then directed Savannah Gymnastics for seven years. She is featured in the book “Legacy of The Blues” for her collegiate competition years. Come join the fun while learning and understanding the concepts of physical and mental training in the sport of gymnastics. Before and after care are available for all classes except Tumbling Tots and for Tumbling the week of July 22. Tumbling Tots: The goal of Tumbling Tots camp is for 2-year-old to 3-year-old students to enjoy being active and to gain an understanding of body-in-motion awareness. Studies show that important reading skills and perceptual motor skills are enhanced if a child’s level of self-confidence and motor skills are raised during the formative preschool years. This half-day gymnastics camp is designed with positive reinforcement for developing skills that will accelerate motor development, agility, coordination, flexibility, strength, a love for physical activity, and high self-esteem. Classes include movement education, tumbling, balance beam, uneven bars, mini-trampoline, and vaulting. The use of other apparatus such as balls, hula hoops, parachute, bright colored squares, blocks, and circles will be used to enhance the awareness of shapes and colors. Before and after care are NOT available for this class. Intermediate/Advanced Gymnastics: Students in this class will be working on the more advanced skills on all the apparatus equipment of floor, uneven bars, beam, vault, parallel bars, and mini-trampoline. Drills and conditioning are a must to develop strength and flexibility. This is an all-day camp that is open to intermediate-level students who can perform the basic back walk-over, front walk-over, and are working on perfecting back handsprings. This camp is also open to those performing skills at the advanced level, such as standing back tucks, round-off back handsprings, back layout, and full twist. Students should bring a lunch and drink every day. Preschool/Beginner Gymnastics: This camp is open to Pre-K-3rd grade. Students should bring a lunch and drink each day. Early registration is a must. In addition to the basic development of gymnastics skills on the balance beam, uneven bars, vault, mini-trampoline, and tumbling, preschool students will work on cognitive skills such as letters, shapes, colors, the skeletal system, and major muscle groups. Activities are designed to help improve self-confidence, flexibility, balance, and rhythm. Preschool gymnastics students will participate in a study of good nutrition and the importance of a healthy body. They will develop skills enhancing their fine motor skills and gross motor skills. This will be a physically challenging camp that teaches the skills that give young children stronger bodies and sharper minds as well as an understanding of their bodies’ capabilities while emphasizing fundamental gymnastics skills on all apparatus and appropriate-sized mats and equipment. All preschool students must be four years old by May 28, 2024 to attend this camp. Beginner/Intermediate Gymnastics: This is an all-day camp open to new or beginner students with little or no previous gymnastics training. The students will be working on progressing basic skills such as cartwheels, one arm cartwheels, front walkovers, back walkovers, and round-offs. Drills and conditioning will be emphasized to enhance and perfect strength and coordination to enable the students to learn more advanced skills safely. Students will learn basic skills on all apparatus such as the balance beam, parallel bars, uneven bars, vault, floor, and mini-trampoline. Students should bring a lunch and drink every day. Tumbling Camp: This camp specializes in tumbling skills for all skill levels from beginner to advanced. Students will be training and conditioning to enhance strength and agility and will be performing drills to reach skill level goals of each individual student. This camp will include floor exercise skills and mini-trampoline. Students must have at least one year of prior gymnastics experience and must have completed the second grade or higher to enroll. Students should bring a lunch and drink each day. Before and after care are NOT available for this class the week of July 22.

    Kids in the Kitchen Camp

    Kids in the Kitchen This camp is devoted to the practical application of everyday ingredients and everyday kitchen items. Students will learn how to properly use kitchen items, like measuring cups and spoons, a knife, griddle toaster oven, and small cooktop to create recipes utilizing ingredients found in most kitchens. This week-long camp focuses on proper prep and clean-up as well as creating a breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack or dessert. Depending on age and maturity level, students will be allowed to help use appliances and cooking tools with close monitoring by the instructor. Open to students entering grades 3 - 6; Before care is available for this camp. After care is NOT available for this camp.

    Pre-K Kiddie Kamp

    Pre-K Kiddie Kamp for 4-year-olds and 5-year-olds Kiddie Kamp provides four and five-year-old preschool students a summer filled with adventure, new discoveries, and fun. The hands-on curriculum spans many themes and presents preschool students with age-appropriate responsibilities and challenges. These students have a natural curiosity and desire to learn, and they enjoy being with other students their age. This camp has been designed to provide activities that build on social and learning skills and present opportunities to learn about sharing, respecting others, building friendships, and developing new interests. The hands-on, structured environment of this camp allows the preschool camper to explore activity centers, enjoy indoor and outdoor activities and field trips, and learn new skills. Campers will also have free time to enjoy group or individual activities through learning opportunities to prepare them for pre-kindergarten or kindergarten classes next school year. Campers must be at least four years old by May 28, 2024 to enroll in this camp. Before and after care are available for these camps. Campers will have a 30 to 45-minute rest time each afternoon. Parents will be provided with a weekly agenda. Campers must bring a lunch and drink.     Science Camp

    Branches of Science What is science? Is it a subject in school? A way of thinking? A career? Science is knowledge and understanding of the world around us. In the Branches of Science camp, students will spend a day with a branch of science to really explore it. Branches of science will feature Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geology, and Astronomy. Students will investigate, play, create, and experiment in each branch of science. The camp is taught by Cynthia Youmans. Mrs. Youmans teaches at Richmond Hill Middle School and enjoys helping young minds learn how much fun science can be. Open to students entering grades 3 - 6.     Snapology Camps

    Snapology Camps Bringing STEM to life using LEGO® bricks! Snapology Savannah summer camps provide a fun and safe environment for children to learn science, technology, engineering, and math concepts using LEGO® bricks and other building tools. We offer computer programming, robotics, animation, and STEM based programs as well as other themed favorites. Your child will learn, create, and innovate while having a blast in our camps! If full day camp is needed on weeks that half-day camps are offered, you can sign your child up for both morning and afternoon Snapology camps, send a lunch, and they can stay from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM! The camps are at the Community Education Campus. Snapology Super Sampler (May 28-31; 9:00 AM-4:00 PM): Come explore the world of Minecraft®, Ninjas, Star Wars® and Superheroes, one day devoted to each theme! Your child is sure to have a blast as we bring these themes to life using LEGO® bricks! Open to students entering grades 1 - 3. Before and after care available. Space Wars Robotics (June 17-21; 9:00 AM-12:00 PM): In this Star Wars-inspired program, your padawan learner will explore the basics of robotics while digging into their favorite parts of the Star Wars movies--the machines! While working with a partner to complete various challenges, your student will be taught how to utilize sensors effectively, how different mechanical components work in their robots, and how programming is a challenging but rewarding skill that they can master with just a little practice. We will support them in the development of their coding and building skills and inspire them with creative challenges based on the movies they love. May the force be with them as they build and grow! Mega Machines Robotics (June 17-21; 1:00-4:00 PM): In Snapology's Mega Machines camp, your child will create some of their favorite motorized vehicles. Students will learn about gear ratio, sensors, pulleys, cranks,and programming as they build trucks, space rovers, helicopters, and much more. Creature Creator Robotics (June 24-28; 9:00 AM-12:00 PM): In Snapology's Creature Creator Robotics camp, your animal lover will create their own animal inspired robotic models. Developing Engineers (June 24-28; 1:00-4:00 PM): Is your student inquisitive, a problem-solver, a big-thinker, a tinkerer, a puzzler, or a budding engineer? This program gives your student the tools they need to understand mechanical movement through the foundations of simple machines, physics, and engineering design. They will see moving parts up-close as they follow instructions to build various machines, then use the models to develop new design ideas, test out physics concepts, and even play games with their partners and classmates. This is an annual fee and must be completed as the first step in enrolling in Community Education's Summer Camp 2024. Enrollment in camps is not valid until registration is complete and paid. Once completed and paid, campers can enroll in one or more camps. Enrollment fees for the camps will be due the Tuesday at midnight two weeks before the camp begins. *Note: You can view all camps before completing Step 1 to be sure that there is a camp you would like for your child to attend.     Superhero Camp

    What does it take to be a superhero? Superheroes play a vital role in modeling valuable lessons such as moral dilemmas, responsibility, honesty, and teamwork. In Superhero Camp, your child will enjoy dressing up and making superhero accessories. The week will be filled with crafts, games, team building activities, imaginative play, and exciting experiments. Come join the fun! This camp is open to boys and girls ages 4-8.   • Take a Bow Theatre Arts Camp

    Take a Bow Theatre Arts Camp In this camp, your child will participate in an online audition before camp, get cast in a role, rehearse on stage during camp, and perform in a play at the end of camp. Play production involves more than memorizing lines and performing though. By working on stage and backstage, students grow in self-confidence, self-awareness, initiative, responsibility, creative thinking, problem solving, time-management, and group decision-making. Campers will work with Hilary Taft, the RHHS Theatre Arts instructor, and Drama Club leaders to put on a production and learn skills to last a lifetime. Open to students entering grades 4 - 8.     Tennis Camp

    Tennis Camp Rally, volley and serve your way through the week! There’s no better way to hone your court skills than to spend a week at a summer tennis camp. If your child has the skills and enthusiasm for exercise, this quality instruction could help lead to a lifetime commitment to the sport. The instruction is designed to bring kids into the game by utilizing specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring, all tailored to age and size. The instructor for this camp is Linda Sun who has taught tennis through the Community Education program for many years. Mrs. Sun is a member of the Richmond Hill Area Tennis Association where she serves as an instructor. She is also a member of the Professional Tennis Registry. Parents will need to purchase a 21, 23, or 25-inch racket for their child from any sporting goods outlet or discount store. If you do not have a racket or do not know what size your child needs, the instructor will provide a sample for your child to try before making a purchase. Open to students entering grades 1 - 3 and 4 - 6. Before care is available for morning camps only. After care is available for afternoon camps only.

    Tormenta FC Soccer Camp

    Tormenta FC Soccer Camp is a week-long program for kids that promotes soccer skill development, game play, and having fun. Students will learn the finer points of dribbling, passing, scoring, and defending, and by the end of the week, will put all of their skills together to play real soccer games. The camp is designed so that players of all skill levels and experiences can participate and continue developing in our fun and exciting environment. Open to students ages 4-14.     Track & Field/Cross Country Camp

    Track & Field/Cross Country Camp If your child can run or jump or throw, then they have a home with Track & Field. Better yet, if they can run or jump or throw, we guarantee we know some tips and tricks to sharpen their current ability while learning techniques that will benefit them in all sports beyond Track & Field. This camp is designed and led by RHHS’s USATF Level 1 certified Savannah Morning News’ Coach of the Year, Levi Sybert, along with a diverse group of RHHS XC and TF Small Group Leaders. Focused on developing the same fundamentals that have brought prominence and excitement to the raw possibilities of Track & Field and Cross Country at RHHS, camp participants will experience firsthand how to find fun in an activity they can do anywhere at any time. Through a variety of interactive activities like relays, running form, and jumps that culminate in a mini meet, each participant will realize their physical and mental capability that can always be moving forward. Camp participants will be grouped in like grade groups so that similar physical and mental abilities will be paired together for enhanced experiences. Open to students entering grades 1-7.     Volleyball Camp at MES

    Grow the game together! Purpose: Develop fundamental volleyball skills while teaching teamwork, strategy, and sportsmanship. Beginners This camp’s primary focus is all about the basics, designed to teach the fundamentals of the sport and develop the proper techniques and skills for hand-eye coordination, agility, body movement, and ball control to play the game. Team play will be introduced and incorporated with a focus on fun while learning skills. *If you previously attended Volleyball Skills & Drills and are still uncomfortable with passing, setting, and serving - this camp is for you. Intermediate: Develop existing skills while teaching teamwork, strategy, and sportsmanship. This camp will develop the skills learned in the beginner class. Players must know how to pass, set, and serve before participating in this camp. Reminders: Every child needs to bring their own water bottle. Bring plenty of water, one snack, and proper sports attire (shorts, T-shirt, and comfortable running sneakers with good grip or volleyball shoes). **If you have/plan on buying volleyball shoes, they are STRICTLY meant for indoor court use, please come in a different pair of shoes (i.e., crocs, slides, flip flops), and once the inside player can change shoes. Please make sure socks are brought or worn. Knee pads are suggested, but not required. Open to grades 3-6. No transport is available for this camp. No before or after care is available for this camp.
  • Welcome to Archery Camp

    Welcome to Archery Camp Archery summer camp is designed to introduce students to the sport of archery. This is a program geared toward beginning and intermediate archers. This course will ensure participants are knowledgeable in range safety, inspection and use of equipment, range etiquette, scoring procedures, and competition procedures. This camp is developed by USA Archery instructors and utilizes the resources available through USA Archery. Camp will be held at Richmond Hill High School and will be taught by Richmond Hill High School's Coach Richbourg. Members of the Richmond Hill High School Archery Team will assist in instructing and monitoring archers. Archers will have the opportunity to engage with older students who have been in the sport for many years as one of the team goals is to foster a sense of community among its members. Equipment is provided for use during camp, and participants are responsible for the following: Wear a long sleeve shirt Wear closed toe shoes Hair must be tied back No dangling jewelry “Arm guards” can be worn if you have your own. The set up and operation of a safe archery range is supervised by a USA Archery® B.A.I. The equipment used in this class is universal. Every archer uses the same bows (Genesis) and the same arrows with no add on. This is to ensure the strength in the shot comes from the discipline and skill of the student and not the equipment.
