Parents who live in the Pembroke/Ellabell area must transport students to Richmond Hill Community Education Center. Driving times will be scheduled after the first class session. A copy of the student’s learner’s license is required prior to beginning the class (bring to class). State law requires that parents drive 40 hours with their child and six hours should be at night. The camps are open to boys and girls. The camps will emphasize flexibility and conditioning, movement education, and apparatus training including beam, uneven bars, parallel bars, vault, mini-trampoline, and floor. Registration is limited in each age/ability grouping. The instructor is Deborah Hager-Luebbert who has taught gymnastics and tumbling with Community Education for 34 years. She is an accomplished gymnast winning a state title championship and competing at nationals and the SEC-NCAA on a four-year collegiate gymnastics scholarship. She coached as an assistant coach after graduation and then directed Savannah Gymnastics for seven years. She is featured in the book “Legacy of The Blues” for her collegiate competition years. Studies show that important reading skills and perceptual motor skills are enhanced if a child’s level of self-confidence and motor skills are raised during the formative preschool years. This half-day gymnastics camp is designed with positive reinforcement for developing skills that will accelerate motor development, agility, coordination, flexibility, strength, a love for physical activity, and high self-esteem. Classes include movement education, tumbling, balance beam, uneven bars, mini-trampoline, and vaulting. The use of other apparatus such as balls, hula hoops, parachute, bright colored squares, blocks, and circles will be used to enhance the awareness of shapes and colors. <b style="background-color: initial; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Tahoma, sans-serif;">Before and after care are <u>NOT</u> available for this class.</b></p><p><strong style="background-color: initial;">Intermediate/Advanced Gymnastics: </strong>Students in this class will be working on the more advanced skills on all the apparatus equipment of floor, uneven bars, beam, vault, parallel bars, and mini-trampoline. Drills and conditioning are a must to develop strength and flexibility. This is an all-day camp that is <strong>open to intermediate-level students</strong><strong> who can perform the basic back walk-over, front walk-over, and are working on perfecting back handsprings.</strong> This camp is also <strong>open to those performing skills at the advanced level, such as standing back tucks, round-off back handsprings, back layout, and full twist.</strong> Students should bring a lunch and drink every day. </p><p><strong>Preschool/Beginner Gymnastics: </strong>This camp is open to <strong>Pre-K-3</strong><sup style="background-color: initial;"><strong>rd</strong></sup> grade. Students should bring a lunch and drink each day. Early registration is a must. In addition to the basic development of gymnastics skills on the balance beam, uneven bars, vault, mini-trampoline, and tumbling, preschool students will work on cognitive skills such as letters, shapes, colors, the skeletal system, and major muscle groups. Activities are designed to help improve self-confidence, flexibility, balance, and rhythm. Preschool gymnastics students will participate in a study of good nutrition and the importance of a healthy body. They will develop skills enhancing their fine motor skills and gross motor skills. This will be a physically challenging camp that teaches the skills that give young children stronger bodies and sharper minds as well as an understanding of their bodies’ capabilities while emphasizing fundamental gymnastics skills on all apparatus and appropriate-sized mats and equipment. <strong style="background-color: initial;">All preschool students must be four years old by May 28, 2024 to attend this camp. </strong></p><p><strong></strong></p><p><strong>Beginner/Intermediate Gymnastics: </strong>This is an all-day camp open to new or beginner students with little or no previous gymnastics training. Drills and conditioning will be emphasized to enhance and perfect strength and coordination to enable the students to learn more advanced skills safely. Lessons are offered on a weekly basis for 30 minutes and are available for beginners as well as those who have piano experience. Minimum age requirements for enrolling in piano lessons will be determined by each instructor. Multiple qualified instructors will be teaching piano for the Community Education program. Piano lessons take place in the after school hours. Class times and locations will be assigned individually. <strong>Please note that your registration does not confirm your enrollment in the piano class. You will be contacted once assigned to an available class or placed on a waiting list if no class is available.</strong> Prices may vary by instructor. </p><p>In Introduction to College Prep Piano, the student receives a weekly 30-minute piano lesson that is tailored to their individual learning style. Courtesy, respect, perseverance, self-control, and positive thinking are the foundations for achieving success in martial arts training. Master Flemmings is a 6th degree black belt, and he has additional martial arts instruction in Karate, Mudukwan, Hapkido, Jujitsu, Krav Maga (Israeli Self Defense) and Hwa Rang Do. Placement in the class will be determined at time of registration. Uniforms must be worn. Uniforms can be obtained through online purchase using the vendor of your choice. A three-piece, white set with a V-neck top, pants, and belt is recommended. The skills and movements required in gymnastics contribute to the development of all muscle groups. Movement Education gives students an understanding of anatomy combined with effort and spatial awareness. The accomplishments of their goals/skills promotes self confidence in a fun learning environment. Safety is always a top priority when teaching skill progression.</p><p><strong><em>Gymnastics</em></strong> classes include instruction on the balance beam, uneven bars, floor, vault and parallel bars. Classes are for boys and girls.</p><p><strong><em>Tumbling</em></strong> classes specializes in perfecting floor skills. At least one year of gymnastics classes is required unless approved by instructor. Black leotards, black or pink tights or black shorts instead of tights, pink ballet shoes, and caramel (tan) tap shoes are recommended but not required.
